China Pavilion

Just as we present the flag of Mexico on the day of independence, is now the turn of the Chinese flag to a few days the 60 anniversary of establishment of the PRC. This building is not only one of the highlights of the Expo 2010, but, together with the Bund, Oriental Pearl Tower and the skyscrapers of Pudong, and has become one of the most characteristic elements of the skyline Shanghai.
Since it is the host country at the largest Expo ever, the Chinese sought a flag with a striking and attractive design, is why we have this building in the shape of an inverted pyramid and who have dubbed ” East Corona. ” This design was inspired by an element of traditional Chinese architecture, media Dougong style, they are easy to find in ancient palaces and temples throughout China. The pavilion is located in Zone A of the fairgrounds, next to the flags of other countries in Asia and next to the Expo Boulevard.
The building is 63 meters and its main color is Red Gugong “which is the same as the Forbidden City in Beijing. In practice, we used 7 different shades of red, in order to make the color uniform flag display under sunlight. Given the irregular shape of the flag, using the same color would have made it look different because as is reached by sunlight. In fact, it took 6 months to choose which shades of red would be used. According to the builders, the color will remain intact at least 30 years.
The theme of the exhibition in the pavilion will be “Chinese wisdom in urban development, and exalt the values of harmony, nature and spirit. The exhibition area will be 85,000 square meters and is divided into the national flag, which shows China as a single entity, then the individual spaces for the provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. For its part, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have their own halls and will be located near China.
In keeping with the ideals of the Expo 2010, this pavilion will be devices for energy saving and resource optimization in the roof will have solar panels that use photovoltaic technology and will have a capacity of 302 kilowatts. Also related to the issue of lighting, and are being tested for night illumination of the flag and no doubt this will also be amazing.
Another peculiarity is that it became a contest to choose the nickname of the flag, the participants had to suggest a name that was two to four Chinese characters. With regard to future use after the Expo, it is said there that could become a Museum of China, auque probably still too early to talk about this issue. Certainly, this pavilion will be the main attractions of all the Expo, so you’ll have to wait considerable waiting times. What do you think the Chinese flag? Do you think a design that falls short of expectations? Or think they could have done better?
